S.K. Dale, director of the thriller Subservience, spoke about directing the daring scene with Megan Fox, who plays an intelligent android in the new science fiction film on Netflix.
Fox plays the role of Alice, an AI android designed to assist families at home. She is bought by the Peretti family after the wife Maggie (Madeline Zima) becomes ill, leaving her husband Nick (Michele Morrone) and daughter Isla (Matilda Firth) in need of extra support at home.
However, things soon go wrong when Alice develops an intense romantic obsession with Nick. This attraction naturally leads to some daring moments between the characters played by Fox and Morrone.
In one particularly shocking moment, Alice blindfolds Nick before changing her voice to Maggie’s to make him go to bed with her. Behind the scenes, Dale emphasized that, since he had already worked with Fox on Till Death from 2021, they were able to capture the moment well with the help of an intimacy coordinator.
“I really felt that she [Fox], with the daring scenes and all, having built that trust since the first film with her, I thought, ‘Well, this is a great way to create a safe environment for us to explore these intimate scenes and try to film something that felt unique,'” explained Dale to TooFab in a recent interview.
“There are certain aspects of these scenes that are a little different from the others, where we’re cutting between different actors back and forth. So we needed them to be on set together and kind of watching each other to make sure we were mimicking what was being seen and all that.”
